Emmynet24 – The Lekki Toll Gate is trending on X (formerly Twitter) after reports emerged of protesters being arrested there and in other parts of Lagos, subsequently taken to Panti.
According to human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong, the protesters were allegedly "grabbed by thugs at the Toll Gate" who then handed them over to the police.
Effiong successfully secured the release of 12 protesters detained on the second day of the #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria protests. Sharing photos of the released protesters, Effiong wrote: "Our team of pro bono lawyers under the auspices of LAWYERS FOR RULE OF LAW AND HUMAN RIGHTS have just secured the release of 12 protesters who were arrested by the police at the Lekki Toll Gate and other parts of Lagos."
He detailed how most of the detainees were apprehended by thugs at the Toll Gate and handed over to the police. Effiong and his team met with the Commissioner of Police at Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park earlier in the day to address the arbitrary arrests. The CP directed them to Panti, where the protesters were detained, and instructed the DCP, Panti to release them.
The released protesters are:
