The fight began with du Plessis gaining an early lead, landing multiple leg and high kicks. Adesanya remained composed, responding with calculated strikes. In the second round, du Plessis took Adesanya to the ground and attempted a submission, but Adesanya managed to escape, staying on the defensive for much of the round.
Adesanya rallied in the third round, landing body shots that appeared to weaken the South African champion. However, du Plessis responded with powerful strikes of his own. The fight took a dramatic turn in the fourth round when du Plessis stunned Adesanya with a hard shot, followed by a rear-naked choke that forced him to tap out.
After the fight, du Plessis praised Adesanya's resilience, stating, “Nobody can take him down and keep him there.”
In his post-fight interview, Adesanya dismissed any thoughts of quitting despite the defeat. “I’m not f***ing leaving! I’m 35. I’m doing all the right things. I know you all motherf***ers wanna see me lose, you wanna see me down,” he declared, showing his determination to keep fighting.
Adesanya's resolve to continue his career remains unshaken, despite this latest setback in the octagon.
