Emmynet24— Nigerians have voiced their dissatisfaction with President Bola Tinubu’s Sunday morning broadcast, criticizing it for failing to address the core demands that have fueled three consecutive days of protests.
According to Emmynet24, President Tinubu labeled the #EndBadGovernance protest as violent and urged protesters to suspend their demonstrations and engage in dialogue. However, he did not address any of the ten demands made by the people.
Arise TV anchor Rufai Oseni called on President Tinubu to participate in an hour-long interview, stating, “President Tinubu should stop giving us speeches; we want an hour-long interview now.”
A student from Lagos State University expressed disappointment, saying, "I was expecting actionable insights to address the demands of the protesters, which should have been the purpose of the address, but he missed that part."
Another Lagos resident, identified only as Lola, commented that Tinubu’s speech resembled a campaign rather than a response to the people’s demands, focusing on figures instead of substantive issues.
“What happened to addressing the police causing violence and tear-gassing peaceful protesters? What happened to police harassing journalists?” questioned Damilola.
Responding to Tinubu’s speech on X (formerly Twitter), user @Homiebishop said, “I speak for all Nigerians when I say Tinubu, you are the worst president ever in Nigeria. You couldn’t even talk about the hunger crisis in the country.”
Another commenter, @TaoFeek182, assured the president that despite his plea for the protest to end, people would continue protesting due to his failure to address the “real issues.”
“Big Daddy, things are extremely difficult right now for the majority. You didn’t address the real issues in your speech, sir, and I can assure you more Nigerians will hit the streets as the ongoing protest continues,” he tweeted.
@Igbalaghemmanue added that Tinubu’s address lacked immediate solutions, questioning why the president’s cabinet members are not telling him the truth about the public’s suffering.
“Nigerians came out to protest, and nothing was said on the reversal of subsidy nor the hunger. With all due respect, sir, you just wasted your time by saying nothing, and we’ll hit the streets come Monday,” tweeted @Nwafresh.
In his speech, Tinubu emphasized his administration’s commitment to public order and condemned the violence during the protests. He extended condolences to the families of those who have died and called for an end to further bloodshed and destruction.
The #EndBadGovernance protests, which began on August 1 across the country, are expected to continue until August 10.
