In the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu is meeting with Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila and Senate President Ahmed Lawan.
According to Reports the meeting kicked up shortly after the chief officials arrived at the State House, at a little after 2 o'clock.
Also, it happens soon after Tinubu's initial security consultation with the Service Chiefs and the Inspector General of Police.
The 10th National Assembly's members will be sworn in on June 5 and elections to fill the positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Speaker of the Senate, and President and Vice President of the Senate will be held later. Although the meeting's purpose is not yet known, it may be related to these events.
The 10th Senate's president is one of at least six senators vying for the position.
Four of the six geopolitical zones in the country—the North-west, South-east, South-south, and North-central—are represented by the candidates.
The two competitors from the North-west are Abdulazeez Yari, a former governor of Zamfara, and Barau Jibrin, a resident of Kano State.
Three candidates entered the contest from the South-east. These are Orji Kalu, the current Senate Whip, the current governor of Abia State, Dave Umahi, the current governor of Ebonyi State, and Osita Izunanaso, the current governor of Imo State.
Godswill Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom State who served as Senate Minority Leader from 2015 to 2019 before joining the PDP, is a candidate from the South-South region.
