The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has accused the Nigerian government of launching a coordinated propaganda campaign to counter the global impact of a recent speech delivered in Washington, D.C., concerning the case of Nnamdi Kanu.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the group alleged that information circulated by government-aligned media was aimed at discrediting claims made during the international address by Mike Arnold, which it described as “explosive” and damaging to Nigeria’s official narrative.

According to IPOB, the speech exposed what it called the political nature of Kanu’s prosecution and accused the Nigerian state of using legal and media structures to suppress dissent. The group further claimed that the address gained widespread international attention, reaching foreign governments, human rights bodies, and diplomatic circles.

IPOB argued that the government’s response followed swiftly, with the emergence of fresh security narratives and alleged discoveries by the military, which it claimed were strategically introduced to divert global attention.

The group questioned the credibility of such reports, citing a lack of independent forensic verification, judicial oversight, and access for neutral observers. It described the development as an attempt to “manipulate public perception” and weaken the global reaction to the Washington speech.

Calling for transparency, IPOB urged Nigerian authorities to subject any available evidence to independent international scrutiny, including verification by neutral forensic experts and global observers.

Reaffirming its stance, the group insisted it would not be intimidated or silenced, maintaining that the issues raised in Washington reflect what it described as the reality of the situation involving its leader.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian government has yet to officially respond to the allegations.
