US Should Partner With Nigeria Not Threaten – APC Faults Opposition Remarks Over Alleged Genocide

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised opposition parties — the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) — over their responses to recent comments by United States President Donald Trump, describing their statements as “mindless and unpatriotic.”

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka accused the opposition of attempting to politicise a sensitive national security issue, warning that such actions could undermine Nigeria’s interests.

“This Is Not the Time for Politics” — Morka

Morka stressed that the U.S. government must ensure its decisions or public statements about Nigeria are based on verified facts, not “false narratives.” He warned that any misinformed action could destabilise the entire West African subregion.

“Whatever it is, the United States government, of which President Trump is leader, has a responsibility to ensure that he gets the facts straight and right on this matter,” Morka said.
“Any decision or action predicated on false arguments or conjured narratives about Nigeria will not affect Nigeria alone — it will affect every other country within this region.”

The APC spokesman explained that Nigeria’s porous borders could make any external aggression spill over to neighbouring countries, potentially worsening regional insecurity.

“Our borders are open. If anything goes on in Nigeria — if Nigerians feel threatened by any kind of military action from the United States — all of the neighboring countries will be implicated in this specter of reaction and counter reaction,” he said.

APC Calls for Partnership, Not Threats

Morka urged the U.S. to adopt a collaborative approach to counter terrorism, noting that cooperation, rather than confrontation, would yield better results.

“This is needless. We can tackle this problem more efficiently if the United States Government will partner with Nigeria — to bring any support or assistance they can muster to the theatre to defeat terror, which I know the United States stands vehemently opposed to,” he added.

Opposition Remarks ‘Despicable’ — APC

The APC spokesman accused the PDP and ADC of exploiting a sensitive issue for political gain.

“Look at the Nigerian opposition — why would the ADC and the PDP be issuing statements that are so mindlessly unpatriotic? It’s wrong,” he said.
“There’s a time for national reckoning and a time for politics. This is not a time for self-serving, senseless political noise-making.”

Morka described as “utterly irresponsible and despicable” the decision by opposition parties to issue political statements at a time when a foreign power had threatened military action against Nigeria.

“A foreign country is issuing a threat to conduct military action against our country — to probably even send boots on the soil of sovereign Nigeria — and a political party thinks this is the moment to make political capital? That is utterly irresponsible,” he stated.

Context

President Donald Trump recently accused Nigeria’s government of failing to protect Christians from large-scale killings, designating Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” and hinting at possible U.S. military intervention — a claim the Nigerian government has firmly rejected.

The opposition parties, including the PDP and ADC, have since issued statements condemning both Trump’s comments and the APC administration’s handling of Nigeria’s internal security and diplomatic responses.
