According to community sources who spoke with SaharaReporters, the latest incident occurred on Wednesday evening while the victims were harvesting rice on their farms. Witnesses said the gunmen arrived unexpectedly and quickly encircled the farmers before seizing them.

A resident familiar with the attack confirmed the development, noting that the community was still gathering full details.

“It has been confirmed that bandits struck again at Bokungi under the Lafiagi Emirate. Four people were abducted. Information is still emerging,” the source said.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers operated without resistance for several minutes, marching the victims into the bush and transporting them to an undisclosed location. Locals expressed growing fear over the escalating insecurity that has disrupted farming activities across Edu LGA.

“People are afraid to go to their farms. This is the period we gather produce, yet this is when they attack the most,” a resident lamented.

Several farming communities in the area have reportedly been abandoned as kidnappers increasingly target farmers during the harvest season—a pattern security analysts have repeatedly warned about.

The Kwara State Police Command had not issued an official statement at the time this report was filed.

The latest abduction follows Tuesday night’s deadly attack on a CAC church in Eruku, where gunmen stormed the building mid-service during a livestreamed programme. Viral footage from the scene captured worshippers screaming and scampering for safety as shots rang out. At least three people were confirmed dead, while several others—including the presiding pastor—were kidnapped.

The successive attacks have heightened concerns about deteriorating security in Kwara State, particularly in rural communities where law enforcement presence remains thin.
