A professional hairstylist, Sebastine Timothy, has been shot dead by suspected armed robbers in the Satellite Town area of Lagos State.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred late Sunday night along Olasanoye Street, throwing the quiet community into mourning.

According to police sources quoted by Punch, the assailants stormed Timothy’s apartment shortly after he returned home from work, dispossessed him of his valuables, and allegedly transferred an undisclosed sum from his bank account before shooting him in the head.

“A complaint was made to the police on Monday morning that he was attacked in his apartment after returning home from work on Sunday night. The robbers robbed him of his belongings and transferred a certain amount of money from his bank account. He was thereafter shot in the head,” a police source said.

Neighbours who heard the gunshots later found Timothy’s lifeless body and alerted the authorities.

Cult-Related Angle Emerges

Meanwhile, an online channel known for tracking cult-related activities, Confra Naija, alleged via its 𝕏 handle that the attack might have been linked to a cult rivalry.

The platform claimed that the assailants, believed to be members of the Eiye confraternity, had originally targeted Timothy’s brother — alleged to be affiliated with a rival cult, Aye — but turned on the hairstylist when they could not find him.

“The Eiye cultists came to attack Sebastine’s brother, who is a member of Aye. When they didn’t find him, they turned on Sebastine, who told them his brother wasn’t around. They forced him to unlock his phone, transfer money to them, and then shot him in the head,” the post read.

Police Give Conflicting Account

However, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Adebisi, offered a slightly different version of events, stating that Timothy sustained a fatal head injury during a fight with unidentified men.

“He sustained an injury to the head and died on his way to the hospital. The police cannot confirm yet if it was a gunshot wound or a machete cut. The family reported the case at the station and later took his body to the mortuary,” Adebisi said.

Investigation Ongoing

Police have reportedly launched an investigation to determine whether the killing was a case of armed robbery or cult-related violence, as conflicting narratives continue to circulate.

The incident adds to growing concerns over rising cases of violent crimes and cult clashes across parts of Lagos, particularly in densely populated suburbs like Satellite Town, Ajegunle, and Okokomaiko.
