Popular Nollywood actress, Regina Daniels, has appealed to Nigerians to stop blaming or insulting her mother, Rita Daniels, amid ongoing controversy surrounding her marriage to billionaire politician Ned Nwoko.
Naija News reports that the actress’s plea follows rising online criticism of her mother, with some netizens accusing Rita Daniels of influencing her daughter’s decision to marry the Delta-born lawmaker.
Family Dispute and Arrest Allegations
Recent reports claim that Regina’s brother was allegedly arrested on the orders of Ned Nwoko. The businessman was said to have vowed not to release him until the actress “returned home” and “went for rehabilitation.”
The controversy deepened after a viral video surfaced showing Regina tearfully alleging that she was being mistreated by her husband — a claim Nwoko has publicly denied, describing his estranged wife instead as “a drug addict.”
‘Stop Insulting My Mother’ — Regina Speaks
In a heartfelt video shared on her Instagram page, Regina Daniels said her mother was not to blame for her marital troubles, stressing that she made the decision to marry Nwoko out of love, against her family’s advice.
“The main essence of this video is to please stop insulting my mom.
She’s the best thing that ever happened to me — my god on earth,” she said emotionally.
The actress revealed that her family had strongly opposed her marriage to Nwoko, but she defied them and left home to be with him.
“Everyone said no — my mom, my brothers, everyone warned me.
But I drove out at night and went to the police station, telling them to arrest my family because they didn’t want me to marry the love of my life. I actually did fall in love with him,” she said.
Clarifies Misconceptions About Greed
Regina also dismissed public speculation that her marriage to the billionaire was motivated by financial gain.
“Stop saying I got married out of greed. We were not broke.
My mom couldn’t have been bought because I was already providing for my family through acting. God used me to bless her,” she explained.
The actress credited her mother for raising her and her siblings through years of hardship and expressed gratitude for her sacrifices.
“She tried. She suffered for us. Please stop insulting her. She’s the best woman on earth,” Regina said tearfully.
