Former Senate President and ex-governor of Kwara State, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has condemned the terrorist attack on Eruku town in the Ekiti Local Government Area of the state, describing the incident as “seriously disturbing” and a threat to regional stability.
Saraki made the remarks in a statement shared on 𝕏 on Wednesday, reacting to reports that several residents were injured while others were abducted during the late-night assault that shattered the peace of the usually quiet community in southern Kwara.
Expressing sorrow and concern, the former lawmaker wrote:
“Yesterday, I received the sad news of the terrorist attack on Eruku town in my home State, Kwara. In the terrible incident, some residents were injured while some others were kidnapped. It is seriously disturbing news which has disrupted the usually serene and peaceful atmosphere of the town.
I sympathise with all the victims and their relatives. I pray for Allah’s healing, restoration and strength at this difficult time.”
Calls for Swift Rescue and Stronger Security Measures
Saraki urged the Federal Government and heads of security agencies to launch an immediate operation to rescue the abducted residents and restore calm to the community.
“I call on the Federal Government, particularly the heads of our security agencies, to urgently act to ensure that the kidnapped victims of this sad incident regain their freedom and return home safely to their loved ones,” he said.
He also appealed for a comprehensive and sustainable security strategy to protect Eruku town and other vulnerable communities across Kwara State.
Kwara’s Strategic Importance Requires Enhanced Protection — Saraki
Highlighting Kwara’s geopolitical relevance, Saraki stressed that the state plays a critical role as a major transit corridor connecting northern and southern Nigeria, which makes security in the region a matter of national interest.
“The state is one of the gateways into the country and a link between the southern and northern parts. This makes it deserving of a special security arrangement that will not jeopardise our national interest and internal peace,” he noted.
Saraki concluded his statement with a prayer for peace and national stability:
“May Allah (SWT) heal our land and help us defeat all those waging wars against Nigeria.”
