You Need Help’ – Presidency Attacks El-Rufai Over Tinubu ‘Life President Claim

The Presidency has dismissed recent comments by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, suggesting that President Bola Tinubu may attempt to become “president for life” if not voted out in 2027.

In a statement on Monday, presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, described El-Rufai’s remarks as the desperate outburst of a politician unsettled by Tinubu’s growing popularity.

“Former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai appears to need some help, especially given his unfounded claims about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It is increasingly evident that he has recognised the futility of attempts by his associates in his new party to prevent Tinubu’s likely re-election in 2027,” Onanuga said.

He noted that President Tinubu recently received a warm reception in Kaduna, contrary to El-Rufai’s claim that the North had abandoned him.

According to the presidential aide, Tinubu is a committed democrat who has no intention of exceeding the constitutional limit of two terms. “President Tinubu does not intend to stay in office beyond May 28, 2031, when he is re-elected in 2027,” he added.

Onanuga further urged Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, to reach out to his predecessor, suggesting that El-Rufai might need professional counselling to stop his “hallucinations and political fabrications.”
