Tragedy struck in Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, after a woman was lynched and set ablaze by an angry mob over allegations of attempting to abduct a seven-year-old boy.
Eyewitnesses reported that the woman was apprehended by residents who accused her of trying to lure the child away. The situation quickly escalated as a crowd descended on her, beating her before setting her on fire.
Local authorities have yet to confirm the woman’s identity or whether she acted alone. Police sources say an investigation has been launched to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
Meanwhile, rights groups have condemned the jungle justice, warning that taking laws into one’s hands undermines due process and risks punishing innocent people.
