Help Men, Not Women — Apostle Suleman Stirs Firestorm With Controversial Sermon

The General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has triggered widespread reactions on social media following his controversial counsel to young men, urging them to channel more of their support toward fellow men rather than women.

The cleric made the remarks during a recent sermon, clips of which have since gone viral across various platforms.

Suleman Explains His Position

According to him, in his years of experience, men who extend help to other men often build stronger bonds and sustainable partnerships, while similar gestures toward women sometimes carry reputational risks.

“As a young man, let me give you some counsel; help more males than females. ‘Aah papa, are you against the females?’ No, let the females help themselves,” Suleman told his congregation.

He added:

“When you help a man, you have a team. When you help a lady, wait for a scandal. Not all of them, maybe ten per cent… but most times, you stand a better chance helping men like you.”

Anticipating criticism, the preacher clarified that his advice was based on personal encounters and not an attempt to demean women.

“I know this statement is going to go somehow, but I don’t care. I am speaking from my experience. This is my opinion, and I am entitled to it,” he said.

Backlash and Support Online

Suleman’s remarks have divided opinion online, drawing both support and condemnation. Critics accused him of promoting gender stereotypes and undermining women’s struggles, while others argued that his message reflected certain realities about loyalty and gratitude.

One Instagram user, @certifiedangel1_, wrote:

“I am the only girl in my family, I have 4 brothers. Nobody helps or sends my brothers money apart from my parents 😢😢😢… Please help men, support men. Men need more help than women.”

 Another user, @nosadeborah, quipped:

“True talk. But dem nor go listen… dem go still help my gender more cos of Nyash and Bobby 😂😂😂.”

 While @domingo_loso agreed:

“Valid point. Most men no dey forget the good you do for them. Men have a very appreciative nature, when you help them no matter how little, he will most likely feel indebted to you.”

However, others disagreed, with @georginatvcomedy cautioning:

“If you are in the position to help, don’t let gender obstruct you from doing so, because even God Himself helps both the sinners and the believers.”

The Larger Debate

Suleman’s comments have reignited a broader conversation about gender roles, trust, and the perception of loyalty in relationships, raising questions about whether assistance should be viewed through the lens of gender or individual character.
