The Anambra State Police Command has arrested three suspects in separate operations that disrupted a car-snatching attempt, foiled the diversion of a truck, and uncovered a child abduction plot.
The command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, noting that the operations were carried out under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, with support from community security stakeholders.
Truck Diversion Foiled in Achalla
On September 23, 2025, around 12:38 p.m., a joint team of police operatives from Achalla Division and members of the Special Vigilante Taskforce arrested two male suspects, Chinwendu Ndieli and Uchenna Offodile, over the theft of a Mack truck with registration number T 5003 LA.
The vehicle, which carried an empty container, was recovered near St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Achalla. The suspects reportedly confessed that the truck had been stolen from a company in Lagos. Police have since contacted the rightful owner for verification and collection.
Abandoned Car Recovered in Okpoko
Later that evening, operatives from Okpoko Division, acting on credible intelligence, recovered an abandoned white Toyota Camry Spider along the Onitsha–Owerri Road, opposite Tiger Fruit Company.
The car, bearing registration number AWK 91 SR (Anambra), was found with an additional plate number, 06A 90 DT (Delta), inside the vehicle. It has been secured at the station for identification by the rightful owner.
Child Abduction in Ihiala
In a separate incident, police operatives in Ihiala, with the assistance of youths in Akwa Village, arrested a suspect, Charles Chiemerie Onuigbo, over the alleged abduction of three children aged six, three, and two.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Onuigbo, alongside two accomplices still at large, conspired to abduct the children while they were eating outside their home. The children’s mother reported that they disappeared when she briefly went into the kitchen.
Ikenga said the suspect, a neighbour who had been sheltering the fleeing accomplices, was beaten by angry residents before being rescued by police officers. He is currently in custody as investigations continue.
Ongoing Operations
The police spokesman added that efforts are ongoing to track the fleeing suspects and rescue the missing children. He also reassured residents that counter-terrorism and other crime prevention operations remain active across the state.
“The Command will sustain its intelligence-led patrols and community partnership approach to ensure criminals have no hiding place in Anambra,” Ikenga stated.
