Abeokuta, Ogun State – Activist Adeotun is calling for justice following the tragic death of a student who reportedly died after being flogged 164 times by a teacher at Grammar School, Obada.
Following this, the principal instructed the teacher to discipline Areyo. The punishment administered was extreme; the teacher delivered 164 strokes of the cane. During this process, Areyo collapsed after a stroke caused him to hit his head on the floor.
Witnesses allege that even after Areyo fell, the teacher did not take immediate action to assist him. Instead, it was only after some time that the boy was rushed to the hospital. Tragically, Areyo was pronounced dead before reaching the medical facility.
Adeotun emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the incident, highlighting the dangers of corporal punishment and calling for accountability for those involved. The community has been left in shock, and many are rallying to support Areyo’s family in seeking justice.
