Wojciech Szczesny Set to Join Barcelona as Emergency Goalkeeper
Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is poised to join Barcelona as an emergency replacement following an agreement with the club. After initially retiring post-Juventus, Szczesny will return to action due to a serious knee injury sustained by Barcelona’s No. 1, Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, a deal was finalized after Ter Stegen suffered a torn patellar tendon during a recent match against Villarreal, prompting immediate concern from manager Hansi Flick.
Barcelona plans to sign Szczesny on a one-year contract, allowing the club to pay him up to 80% of Ter Stegen's £7.5 million salary. A medical is scheduled for later this week before he joins the squad.
The 34-year-old Szczesny, who has 84 caps for Poland, made 200 appearances for Juventus after transferring from Arsenal for £12.5 million.
