Take-It-Back Movement Notifies Police of Planned #FearlessInOctober Protest
The Take-It-Back Movement has formally informed Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun about its upcoming #FearlessInOctober protest, scheduled for Nigeria's Independence Day, October 1. This protest aims to demand an end to bad governance and advocate for accountability from leaders.
In a letter addressed to the police, human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong emphasized that the protest seeks to address Nigeria’s pressing socio-economic challenges and encourages citizens to voice their concerns.
Effiong affirmed the group's commitment to peaceful advocacy and urged the police to ensure the safety of all participants. The letter outlined various designated gathering locations across several states, including:
- Lagos: ikeja, under Bridge
- Ogun: Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta
- Osun: OAU Campus gate, Ile-Ife
- Ondo: Cathedral Roundabout, Akure
- Delta: Amukpe Roundabout, Sapele
- Gombe: Rainbow Roundabout
- Kwara: Post Office, Underbridge
- Adamawa: Police Roundabout, Jimetta
- Rivers: Pleasure Park, Port Harcourt
- Yobe: Damaturu Main Roundabout
- Borno: Arewa Youths for Peace Office
- Abuja: Eagle Square
Effiong referenced Section 83(4) of the Nigeria Police Act, 2020, which mandates police to provide security for public gatherings. He requested that adequate measures be put in place to ensure the safety and constitutional rights of the participants during the peaceful demonstration.
