President Tinubu departed Abuja for Beijing on August 29. After a stopover in Dubai, he arrived in Beijing on September 1. His visit commenced with a meeting with President Xi Jinping on September 2, where he was honored with a 21-gun salute and inspected the guards.
During the visit, five Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) were signed between Nigeria and China, including agreements on the Belt and Road Initiative, nuclear energy cooperation, and human resource development. Additionally, Nigeria and China signed agreements for media exchange and the construction of a $1 billion iron ore-to-steel project in Kogi State.
President Tinubu also met with Chinese Premier Li Qiang and attended a welcoming banquet and cultural gala hosted by President Xi Jinping and First Lady Peng Liyuan. He visited Huawei and China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) before attending the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit, where he spoke on global peace and multilateralism.
Following his time in China, President Tinubu spent a few days in London, where he met with King Charles III to discuss climate change and action.
