Kukah stated, “What is also very interesting is that the current president, when he was a presidential candidate, did not sign. It wasn’t our fault that the political opposition didn’t take advantage of it,” prompting public discourse on the matter.
In response, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, issued a statement on September 17, refuting Kukah’s assertion. He clarified that President Tinubu had signed two peace accords prior to the election. The first, aimed at ensuring a free and credible election, was signed on September 29, 2022, with Vice President Kashim Shettima representing Tinubu. The second agreement, signed on February 23, 2023, committed candidates to accept the election outcome and was personally signed by Tinubu.
