Emmynet24 News Further reports that the woman described the examination as part of a military promotional test, stating that she confidently called upon her faith before receiving the answers. She claimed that while she was able to complete the exam, another candidate, identified as a member of a rival church, copied her answers.
Her testimony drew cheers from fellow church members but also condemnation from Bishop Stephen Adegbite, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Lagos. He dismissed her account as a fabrication, asserting that true academic success comes only through hard work and faith in God. Adegbite announced that the association would convene to discuss the controversy surrounding this and other "unacceptable" testimonies from church members.
He criticized the church's decision to allow such testimonies, stating, "There are testimonies you don’t allow to be given in the church," and urged that stories of dubious nature should not be presented to the congregation.
In response to the backlash, Pastor Chidi Louis, the church's Head of Public Relations, defended the testimonies, claiming they were often misunderstood or misrepresented. He emphasized that members are free to share their experiences without censorship, arguing that the church does not seek to control the narrative of individual testimonies.
The incident has raised questions about the accountability of religious institutions in moderating claims of divine intervention, especially as similar controversial testimonies from church members continue to circulate on social media.
