An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) attached to the Ekiti State Police Command has been killed in a hit-and-run incident. The officer, identified as Idris Lawal, was struck and fatally injured at a checkpoint at Ayemi Garage along Iworoko Road in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
The incident occurred during a stop-and-search operation around 11 p.m. on Monday, September 9, 2024. Despite being rushed to the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) for medical treatment, Lawal was pronounced dead by doctors.
A police internal memo confirmed that the body has been deposited at the morgue for autopsy. The vehicle involved is described as a white, unmarked Mercedes Benz. Authorities are actively pursuing the driver responsible for the incident.
