Emmynet24 reports that Ecobank has formed a partnership with EStars, aimed at enhancing youth empowerment through education and technology. This initiative will integrate EStars’ esports club and educational programs into Nigerian schools, building on successful models implemented in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
The online platform will offer educational games designed to cultivate essential soft skills, including critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership. Mags Byrne, CEO of EStars, emphasized the significance of esports as a means to acquire vital life skills in today's digital landscape. “With Ecobank’s extensive reach and commitment to youth development, we aim to provide every Nigerian student the opportunity to gain these skills through our esports curriculum,” Byrne stated.
During the partnership announcement, Omoboye Odu, Head of SMEs, Partnerships and Collaborations at Ecobank Nigeria, highlighted the bank’s dedication to facilitating pathways for African youth to thrive in a digital economy. He noted that esports presents a unique approach to education, enhancing accessibility and relevance for future leaders.
As digital education evolves, esports is increasingly recognized as an effective tool for engaging students in innovative learning environments. The esports industry is projected to be worth $249.6 billion in 2023, surpassing both the music and film sectors.
The partnership aims to drive significant socio-economic growth in Nigeria and across Africa, enabling youth to become integral players in various sectors such as event management, broadcasting, game development, and content creation.
