The Federal Government has terminated the contract for Section 1 of the Kano-Maiduguri road project, originally awarded to Dantata & Sawoe Ltd in 2007. The decision was announced on Saturday through a statement released by Uchenna Orji, Special Adviser on Media to the Minister of Works, David Umahi.

Minister Umahi cited the expiration of the contract as the reason for its termination and emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring the timely completion of infrastructure projects. He stated that future federal projects would undergo revisions to the liability period to guarantee durability and better value for public funds.

"Going forward, there will be clear agreements on milestone completion timelines for ongoing projects under the Tax Credit Scheme," Umahi said. "As Minister of Works, I expect everyone to take responsibility. We will no longer stand by while awarded and reviewed projects continue to linger."

In addition to addressing the Kano-Maiduguri road project, Minister Umahi assured Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, of immediate intervention to repair a flood-damaged section of the same road within Bauchi State. A technical team has been dispatched to evaluate the damage and recommend urgent solutions. Mothercart Ltd, the original contractor, has also been directed to participate in the assessment to determine the cause of the road failure.

The Minister praised the contributions of private companies like Dangote Plc and BUA to various road projects across the country, urging Mainstream Energy Solutions and others to expedite their efforts on ongoing infrastructure initiatives. Umahi reiterated the government's dedication to ensuring that Nigerians experience the tangible benefits of these investments, focusing on improving the safety, reliability, and economic impact of the nation's roads.
