Caverton Marine Limited, a leading Nigerian marine logistics provider, has announced a strategic partnership with ExploMar (Suzhou) Energy Technology Co. Ltd. of China. This collaboration represents a significant leap forward in sustainable transportation in Nigeria, as Caverton Marine integrates advanced electric outboard engines from ExploMar into its newly launched passenger ferries, known as The OMIBUS.

Built at Caverton Marine's facilities in Lagos, the OMIBUS ferries were recently commissioned by the Lagos State government. These ferries are poised to revolutionize water transportation in the region by offering a cleaner and more efficient alternative to traditional fossil fuel-powered vessels.

The partnership will see ExploMar's state-of-the-art electric outboard systems installed on the OMIBUS ferries, enhancing their operational efficiency and significantly reducing their carbon emissions. This move aligns with global efforts to promote environmental sustainability and supports Caverton Marine’s mission to contribute to cleaner waterways and better air quality in Lagos.

In addition to the strategic partnership, Caverton Marine, in collaboration with the Lagos State government, launched a pilot program on July 29th to evaluate the operating expenses of the OMIBUS ferries. The program highlighted the impact of the recent removal of fuel subsidies on operational costs, emphasizing the need for more affordable and eco-friendly propulsion systems.

Bode Makanjuola, CEO of Caverton Offshore Support Group, commented on the partnership, stating, “This agreement with ExploMar represents a significant milestone in our journey towards sustainable maritime operations. By leveraging ExploMar’s cutting-edge technology, we are setting new standards for passenger ferry services in Nigeria and demonstrating our commitment to a greener future.”

ExploMar’s CEO, Alex Dong, expressed excitement about the collaboration, saying, “We are thrilled to partner with Caverton Marine on this groundbreaking project. The OMIBUS ferries equipped with our electric outboard systems will serve as a model for sustainable marine transport, not just in Nigeria but across Africa.”

Caverton Marine Limited, a subsidiary of Caverton Offshore Support Group, has been providing marine logistics services to local and international oil and gas companies in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa since 1999. ExploMar, established in 2021, is a leader in electrifying water mobility, using sustainable energy and advanced technology to create powerful, eco-friendly powertrain systems.
