President Bola Tinubu has removed Mohammed Bello-Koko from his position as the Managing Director (MD) of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). Abubakar Dantsoho has been appointed as his successor.
Bello-Koko had initially been appointed as acting MD by President Muhammadu Buhari in May 2021, with his appointment being confirmed in February 2022. The tenure for the NPA MD is five years.
Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced the changes in a statement on Friday. Additionally, President Tinubu has appointed Adedayo Adeyeye, a former senator, as the chairman of the NPA board.
Ngelale highlighted Dantsoho’s impressive academic and professional background, noting that he holds a Doctorate degree in Maritime Technology from Liverpool John Moores University in the United Kingdom, and a Master’s degree in International Transport from Cardiff University of Wales, United Kingdom. Dantsoho has previously served in various capacities within the NPA, including roles as Assistant General Manager, Technical Assistant to the Managing Director, Port Manager at Onne Port, and Principal Manager of Tariff & Billing.
Describing Adeyeye, Ngelale emphasized his extensive experience as a lawyer, journalist, and politician. "He is a former Minister of State for Works and former Senator representing Ekiti South Senatorial District," Ngelale stated.
President Tinubu has expressed his expectation that the new leadership of the NPA will uphold excellence in their duties, aiming to enhance port services and achieve better outcomes for the industry.
