President Bola Tinubu has issued a ban on the acquisition of petrol-dependent vehicles by members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

Furthermore, the President has mandated the compulsory purchase of compressed natural gas (CNG) powered vehicles for all government ministries, departments, and agencies.

Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this directive in a statement on Monday evening, May 13, 2024. Ngelale emphasized that the move aligns with Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring energy security, promoting efficiency, and reducing the high costs associated with fuel.

Tinubu underscored the irreversibility of the energy reforms initiated by his administration during a meeting with FEC members at the State House on Monday. He emphasized the need for decisive action to transition to cleaner energy sources, citing CNG-enabled vehicles as a viable alternative due to their lower emissions and cost-effectiveness.

In line with this directive, FEC members are instructed to refrain from proposing the purchase of conventional petrol-dependent vehicles and instead focus on sourcing CNG-compliant vehicles that offer better value for money.

The statement reaffirmed Tinubu's dedication to maximizing the nation's gas resources, easing the financial burden of transportation on citizens, and improving the overall quality of life for all Nigerians.
