Kogi High Court Orders EFCC Chairman to Appear Over Alleged Contempt of Court Following Ex-Governor's Legal Action

Kogi High Court in Lokoja has issued a compelling directive for Mr. Ola Olukoyede, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to appear before it on May 13. The court's decision comes in response to serious allegations leveled against Olukoyede and the EFCC of flouting a previous court order, thereby sparking a contempt charge.

The ruling, delivered by Justice I.A. Jamil of High Court IV, emerged from a case brought forth by ex-Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi. Bello's legal representation, led by M.S. Yusuf, presented a motion ex-parte, prompting the court to take action. According to Bello's claims, the EFCC's actions directly contravened a court order issued on February 9. This alleged violation has led to the contempt charge being brought against the EFCC chairman.

Justice Jamil, after careful consideration of the presented arguments and evidence, granted Bello's request for Olukoyede to be summoned and answer to the contempt charge. The court's decision underscores the gravity of the situation and the need for legal accountability.

This legal saga unfolds against the backdrop of a recent incident on April 17, when EFCC operatives reportedly besieged the residence of the former governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, with the intention of effecting an arrest. However, their efforts were thwarted as Bello was later whisked away by the convoy of Kogi Governor Alhaji Usman Ododo.

The upcoming court appearance scheduled for May 13 promises to shed further light on the unfolding legal battle between the ex-governor and the EFCC, with implications for both parties involved.
