In a bid to alleviate the ongoing hardships faced by vulnerable households in Lagos State, the government has received a significant boost in the form of 80,000 bags of rice, each weighing 10 kilograms. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu personally oversaw the reception of fully loaded trucks transporting these essential supplies, generously provided by the Aliko Dangote Foundation.

Accompanied by prominent figures such as Africa's wealthiest individual, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, billionaire associate Mr. Femi Otedola, and Fatimah Dangote, the foundation's efforts aim to support the nutritional needs of residents during the fasting period and ease prevalent difficulties.

This intervention forms part of the Foundation's broader initiative to distribute one million bags of 10kg rice to vulnerable families across Nigeria, with Lagos being one of the largest beneficiaries.

Governor Sanwo-Olu lauded this act of kindness, describing it as a demonstration of Alhaji Dangote's exceptional compassion and empathy towards those in need. He emphasized the significance of such corporate social responsibility actions, especially during times of economic strain and inflation.

Sanwo-Olu highlighted that these rice supplies would complement existing state-led interventions, aiding in mitigating food shortages exacerbated by inflation. He also mentioned various multi-sectoral initiatives already underway, including reduced public transport fares and discounted food item provisions.

Furthermore, the Governor announced plans to distribute 100,000 combo boxes of food items to households free of charge, urging private organizations to follow suit and support the government's efforts.

In response, Alhaji Aliko Dangote reaffirmed the foundation's commitment to solidarity with vulnerable populations, particularly during fasting periods. He noted the strategic importance of Lagos in facilitating the success of such outreach programs.

The foundation's Managing Director, Ms. Zouera Youssoufou, emphasized the inclusivity of their efforts, extending support to all faiths during this period of need. Distribution logistics will be handled jointly by the foundation and the Lagos State government to ensure effective reach to beneficiaries across the state.
