During a speaking engagement in Lagos state on Tuesday, March 26, former President Olusegun Obasanjo emphasized the correlation between the unemployment crisis in Nigeria and the escalating activities of bandits and kidnappers.

Obasanjo highlighted the significance of addressing unemployment as a pivotal strategy for enhancing national security. He asserted that individuals who are not gainfully employed are more susceptible to engaging in criminal activities such as banditry and kidnapping.

"Insecurity in our country is partly fueled by individuals who lack proper employment opportunities. By providing them with employment, we can significantly reduce their involvement in criminal activities like banditry and kidnapping," Obasanjo stated.

His remarks underscore the urgent need for comprehensive measures to tackle the root causes of insecurity in Nigeria, with a particular focus on addressing the pressing issue of unemployment.

Obasanjo's comments reflect the growing concerns over the security challenges facing the nation and the imperative of implementing sustainable solutions to safeguard the well-being and prosperity of all citizens.
