Exploring the unknown “STARS”

What are stars? What is known about these little twinkling lights in our stars?

Hi, it's Fajems here.

I shall be your guide with some simple facts, you may or may not know about Stars.

We, people of the earth, call our star a sun, a big luminous fireball in our sky. Millions of kilometers away from us, yet so bright and so Hot, you can feel its scorching heat while you are stuck in your typical Lagos traffic. But the star being hot is just general knowledge at this point, but I do have some hot facts for you.

For instance, every star discovered has a name. When you look up above the sky so high and wonder what they are, you should know their names too. Although, if I were to write a list, I doubt the characters I am permitted to type would be sufficient. But then you should know the name of the white sun in our sky. Our Sun [star] is called SOL, if you watch the popular anime FIRE FORCE, it is the key part of their religion [latom].

Ah, in the paragraph above I mentioned a color [white], this brings me to my next fact, every Sun has a color like all things should, but did you know our sun isn’t yellow. Yup every SUPERMAN comic got it wrong. Our sun is white, and light is refracted when entering our dense atmosphere it scatters away the violet and blue light waves, leaving behind the yellow and red we see regularly. Well, it better not be red, if our sun does go red, it will become a red giant, which is the final phase of the lifespan of a star…don’t worry, that won’t be an issue for millions of years.

Do you know stars move?

Stars are like parents to the planets in their solar systems. They exist in a super large extended family called the MILKY WAY GALAXY.

The gravitational force produced by each star helps create orbits that keep them apart, but each star follows the natural flow of force and gravity in its galaxy. This just means, our solar system doesn’t stay in one place in space rather, it’s constantly moving through our known galaxy while taking us for a ride.

For my final fact, did you know that our Sun [Sol] has an evil sister popularly known as the “Death star” or “Nemesis star”. This star is theorized to complete an orbit around our sun every 27 million years, while the Earth completes an orbit in just 24 hours. The Nemesis star [cool name by the way] is also theorized to be the cause of the extinction of the dinosaurs, this is because of the form of our solar system. Our system is divided into two and separated by a massive asteroid cloud, like a bubble, the Nemesis star passes through this cloud to complete its orbit, and the gravitational force it exerts slingshots asteroids of different sizes across the solar system and to unpredictable destinations too. Hence its name and a high potential for destruction. So one Thursday morning, when you look up into the morning sky, and you spot two suns. Well, it's been nice knowing ya.

Well, that's all for today. If you have any questions or if there's anything you want me to write about on the topic of "space", please let me know in the comments.

Our Moon [LUNA] is not a star.
